As soon as they were released, Peter and John went to the community. They told them all the priests and rulers had said to them. All together they lifted up their voices to God. "Master, the things foretold to us by the prophets have come true. In this very city the rulers of the Jews and of the pagans conspired together to put to death Your Christ, Whom You sent us as Messiah and King. But this was only to bring about the very thing that You had already determined should take place; this was made known to us by the prophets of old. So now, Lord, help us Your servants to speak Your message with all boldness, by stretching out Your hand to heal and work miracles through the Name of Jesus." As they prayed, the house where they had assembled rocked; they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly.
The Twelve worked so many miracles among the people that the sick were even taken out into the streets and laid on mats in the hope that at least the shadow of Peter might fall across some of them as he went past. People even came crowding in from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by unclean spirits, and all of them were cured.
