Quoting Steve Jobs: “The personal computer is the bicycle of the mind.” I truly believe that Job’s last words, “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow,” were uttered as he was embraced by Herbert Schwartz – aka The American Staretz – welcoming Steve, as his own spiritual and intellectual kin, to the bosom of Abraham! Back in the early days when the disciples of Herbert consisted of a little klatch of bewildered intellectuals like myself, struggling to make sense of the nonsensical world we were tasked with raising our children in, one of our guys, a bona fide Greenwich Village beatnik, became enthused over the possibilities of computerized language translation – semiotics was at the time just coming in as time the latest rage. When Herbert urged him to go to it, I was recruited by reason of my rock-solid formation in Aristotelian philosophy – which I had acquired via a decade of facing down the obdurate Jesuit establishment I had inadvisedly but inescapably taken on by entering the graduate philosophy program at Georgetown U. And, indeed, before long, our computerized translation company, Logos, was being recognized as being the first to achieve a genuinely in-depth linguistic resolution – lexical and grammatical -- made possible by our semanto-syntactic approach to language, based on Aristotle’s thesis of matter and form. Yet I was, frankly, heartbroken at what I found when, some years after I had left, I was called back to Logos to do a job requiring an in-depth familiarity with the system in its entirety. Nor do I today see any of the analysis operative in the Logos system, as it stood when I left the company in the early 1980’s, in the Google translations which presumably would by now have access to the technology. Nor do most of the people I deal with exhibit any more sane rationality than those Steve Jobs discusses in what is the source of the above quote, “The personal computer is the bicycle of the mind,” namely: “’The Lost Interview: Steve Jobs Tells Us What Really Matters’” -- by Steve Denning | Forbes – Thu, Nov 17, 2011 http://news.yahoo.com/lost-interview-steve-jobs-tells-us-really-matters-160522977.html I think it’s even a film you can view if you live in some of our larger cities. He must have known what really matters, because apparently Steve Jobs’ enterprises have managed to attract or train a sufficiently bright and intellectually aware workforce to keep them hale and healthy and operating in the modality established by their founder! Dare I hope we likewise might effect something similar via an in-depth Verbal Tour of my Mamaleh-Larisa site, in tandem with the Visual Tour – it is said “a picture is worth a thousand words”! In line with this, Orthodox ikons are nothing less than “theology written in color”. Thus it is through them that you can actually enter into that world above, in which the mind, the spirit, all the higher faculties, elevate us to that higher realm to which we belong in virtue of our participation in the very nature itself of the Holy Three-in-One, made possible by God the Word Who through His Virgin Mother has clothed Himself in us!See the following for the latest in God’s ongoing process of our regeneration, THROUGH OUR MUSICAL PARTICIPATION IN HIS OWN CELESTIAL HARMONY!

SHOUT IT OUT TO THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!

News of our brother Met. Hilarion Alfeyev – of the spiritual family of the late Pat. Aleksi, and the present Pat. Kiril, both of Moscow and All Russia, and of Met. Pavel, currently of Ryazan and Kasimov, who is heir to the spirituality of Optina. The “home town” of Met. Pavel, as he told me when we first met, was Karaganda, Kazakhstan – a Soviet GuLag prison city, which -- as I was to learn some years later -- was formed in the Faith by a priest incarcerated there, Saint Sebastian of Karaganda, see “Elder Sebastian of Optina”, by Tatiana V. Torstensen, available on amazon and elsewhere.

If it has not come to the attention of most of my chat group how the profoundly theological writings and spiritually transforming musical works of our dear brother in Christ, Met. Hilarion Alfeyev are ABSENT from the book store (just for starters) at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in South Canaan, PA – I will let you do your own research as it is too painful a subject for me to embroil myself further. Some of what goes on, but far from all, is detailed on this site.

My remarkable webmaster – or, I guess, web mistress, Alexandria Harris, has just added news of an event which goes far to redress this travesty, so that I don’t think my Spiritual Father, Met. Pavel, would want me to dwell further on the sorry state of affairs heretofore prevailing. Please click here to read the good news
