When they saw that so many tax collectors and sinners came to Jesus, some of the Pharisees and religious rulers were shocked. "This man accepts sinners and eats with them,'' they said.
So Jesus told them this parable:
"What man among you, who has a hundred sheep, and finds one of them lost, would not leave the ninety-nine and seek for the one until he finds it? When he has found it, he is full of joy. He brings it home on his shoulders. He invites all his friends in, and says to them, 'Be joyful with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.' In the same way, I tell you, there will be more joy among the angels in heaven over one sinner who is sorry for his sins, than over ninety-nine without sin who do not need sorrow for sin."
