A rich publican named Zacchaeus lived in Jericho. He wanted to see Jesus.
But when Jesus came to Jericho, Zacchaeus could not see over the crowds. He was too short. So he climbed up into a sycamore tree. He thought no one would notice, but Jesus saw him. "Come down quickly, Zacchaeus," He said. "I am coming to stay with you today."
Zacchaeus was delighted. As he took Jesus home, some people were saying, "Jesus is going to visit a sinner." But Zacchaeus stood up before Jesus and said, "Here and now, I give half of all I have to the poor. And any man I have cheated, I will pay back fourfold."
"Salvation has come to your house today," Jesus said. "This is what I have come for: to search for and save what was lost."
