Quoting Steve Jobs: “The personal computer is the bicycle of the mind.”

Dec 1, 2011

I truly believe that Job’s last words, “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow,” were uttered as he was embraced by Herbert Schwartz – aka The American Staretz – welcoming Steve, as his own spiritual and intellectual kin, to the bosom of Abraham!!

Back in the early days when the disciples of Herbert consisted of a little klatch of bewildered intellectuals like myself – Laura Jones, aka Mamaleh Larisa -- struggling to make sense of the nonsensical world we were tasked with raising our children in, one of our guys, a bona fide Greenwich Village beatnik, became enthused over the possibilities of language translation – semiotics was at the time just coming in as time the latest rage. When Herbert urged him to go to it, I was recruited by reason of my rock-solid formation in Aristotelian philosophy – which I had acquired via a decade of facing down the obdurate Jesuit establishment I had inadvisedly but inescapably taken on by entering the graduate philosophy program at Georgetown U. And, indeed, before long, our computerized translation company, Logos, was being recognized as being the first to achieve a genuinely in-depth linguistic resolution – lexical and grammatical -- made possible by our semanto-syntactic approach to language, based on Aristotle’s thesis of matter and form.

Yet I was, frankly, heartbroken at what I found when, some years after I had left, I was called back to Logos to do a job requiring an in-depth familiarity with the system in its entirety. Nor do I today see any of the analysis operative in the Logos system, as it stood when I left the company in the early 1980’s, in the Google translations which presumably would by now have access to the technology.

Nor do most of the people I deal with exhibit any more sane rationality than those Steve Jobs discusses in what is the source of the above quote, “The personal computer is the bicycle of the mind,” namely: “’The Lost Interview:

Steve Jobs Tells Us What Really Matters’” -- by Steve Denning | Forbes – Thu, Nov 17, 2011

He must have known what really matters, because apparently Steve Jobs’ enterprises have managed to attract or train a sufficiently bright and intellectually aware workforce to keep them hale and healthy and operating in the modality established by their founder! Dare I hope we likewise might effect something similar via an in-depth Tour of my Mamaleh-Larisa site – you can navigate via the ikons, it is said “a picture is worth a thousand words”! In line with this, Orthodox ikons are nothing less than “theology written in color”. Thus it is through them that you can actually enter into that world above, in which the mind, the spirit, all the higher faculties, elevate us to that higher realm to which we belong in virtue of our participation in the very nature itself of the Holy Three-in-One, made possible by God the Word Who through His Virgin Mother has clothed Himself in us!
Are you ready to soar?
